Gavin's Gifts Charity is an organization that has been put together to give back to the community.
A stillbirth is defined as fetal death at 20 weeks of gestation or later. According to the CDC, each year about 25,000 babies are stillborn in U.S. This is about 10 times as many deaths that occur due to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). A recent article published in the December 14, 2011 issue of JAMA found that stillbirth steadily occurs in 1 in 160 pregnancies in the United States and is most often resulting from OB complications and placental abnormalities. Gavin's Gifts is a charity dedicated to help these poor families that have to go through this very tough time in their lives. Our goal is to gather donations from the community to buy the supplies necessary to build beautiful caskets for stillborn children. We too have been through this and understand the highest importance of burying a child in a safe and secure enclosure, and we want to help take part of the financial burden off the family. These caskets will all be hand built using a pattern made for Gavin's casket, who was our first son that was stillborn. He has helped us realize the financial demand that falls upon a family with the sudden loss of a child. This is a way we can help out.
